Equipment

A diverse range of yoga equipment is your basis for asana practice

Yoga blocks, yoga straps, bolsters and other tools such as the yoga wheel or the headstand stool help to make your yoga practice versatile and individual. They serve as help and support, but can also be used to transform asanas into more advanced versions, for example by using your yoga tools to intensify the stretch in a pose.

Yoga tools add variety to your yoga practice and help you refine it so that you can develop into postures step by step, minimize the risk of injury (by not overexerting yourself, but rather practicing with support) and achieve good alignment in the postures. They open up new possibilities for your asana practice and also for your relaxation.

What exactly is meant by yoga equipment?

Yoga equipment in the narrower sense refers to yoga tools that are used directly in the asana practice (see overview) and go beyond the basic product of the yoga mat. It can also include various accessories and products related to yoga, such as yoga bags (bags for yoga mats) or meditation cushions - in other words, any yoga accessories. Yoga towels for aerial yoga can also be included under the term yoga equipment.

Yoga equipment at a glance: various tools

The yoga strap

Yoga straps are particularly - but not exclusively - popular in Iyengar yoga. Yoga straps can bridge gaps (for example when the hands do not meet in "bound poses") and of course deepen stretches where desired.

The yoga block

Yoga blocks are also among the tools that are traditionally used in Iyengar yoga, but also across styles. Yoga blocks can be used for many different purposes to create or support a yoga posture that makes sense to the individual. They can be used in a variety of asanas. Yoga blocks are now available in various shapes.

Yoga bolster

Most yoginis and yogis are familiar with bolsters, especially from restorative yoga and yin yoga. They give the body stability and support in passive postures and help with letting go and relaxation.

Sandbags

Occasionally it can be beneficial to use weights to add weight and place them on certain parts of the body during the corresponding asanas. Sandbags are used for this purpose, for example in TriYoga.

The headstand stool

The headstand stool is a newer aid that makes it very easy to assume an inverted position.

The Yoga Wheel

The yoga wheel is one of the most recent inventions in yoga equipment. It is used to enable deep backbends. It also brings a certain dynamism to yoga practice, as it can roll and does not rest statically on the floor.

In addition to these aids for asana practice, at YOGISTAR you will also find yoga bags for different mat sizes and widths in the broader sense of yoga equipment as yoga accessories, as well as a very nice selection of meditation cushions. In addition, we offer you numerous small and large accessories for yoga, from special yoga mat cleaners to yoga towels, mat fastening straps, acupressure mats and much more - let yourself be surprised!

And last but not least: We are your specialist for yoga mats - the "sticky mat", i.e. the non-slip yoga mat in a wide variety of models and variants, is our core product.

So if you are still looking for your yoga mat - you are guaranteed to find it with us!

Application examples for yoga equipment - a small selection

Would you like some concrete pointers on how and in which asanas the classic tools (yoga block and yoga strap) can be used?

In the shoulder bridge ( Setubandhasana ) you can place a block between the knees so that you can press against the block with your legs and thus create tension. In the triangle ( Trikonasana ) the hand can be placed on the yoga block if the floor is not reached. The same applies to the half moon ( Ardha Chandrasana ). In the fish pose ( Matsyendrasana ) a yoga block can be placed under the thoracic spine to increase the "opening" in this area.

In Rajakapotasana, you can place the yoga strap around the foot of the leg that is bent upwards, creating a connection between your hands and foot if you cannot grasp the foot with your hands. In Navasana , the boat, you can place the yoga strap around the toes and pull on them with your hands. In Supta Padangushthasana, you can place the yoga strap around the foot and hold the ends of the strap in your hands to pull the foot closer to you.

These examples are just a few of many - you see: there is a lot you can do with these tools!

Material, workmanship and quality: Yoga equipment should be high quality

The most important thing when choosing and buying yoga equipment is to pay attention to quality, because yoga equipment should of course be stable and reliable and durable enough to give you long-lasting pleasure in your yoga practice. At YOGISTAR, we use all of our know-how and guarantee that our yoga aids fully meet the criteria mentioned.

Yoga equipment and sustainability

Sustainability is an aspect that we are all becoming increasingly aware of and that is important for all areas of life and consumer decisions. Of course, it also plays a role for yoga products. Organic cotton for the yoga straps, sustainable materials such as cork for the yoga blocks - this is how your yoga equipment becomes future-proof. YOGISTAR is also moving with the times here and offers you environmentally friendly, resource-saving options and contemporary materials.

FAQ

Do you absolutely need yoga equipment for asana practice?

The basic equipment required for asana practice is a yoga mat. Yoga equipment, i.e. yoga tools, is usually optional. However, there are yoga styles in which certain yoga tools are used heavily, such as Iyengar Yoga and Yin Yoga.

Is yoga equipment intended for beginners or advanced practitioners?

This question is easy to answer: both! Yoga aids help beginners to be able to perform certain yoga postures (for example, yoga straps can be used as an extension if the hands cannot hold each other due to a lack of mobility, etc., yoga blocks can be used as support, etc.), and can be used by advanced practitioners to specifically intensify postures and thus make them a little more challenging.

How do I use yoga equipment?

The use of yoga aids is shown and explained in many YouTube videos, online tutorials, practice books and DVDs. Of course, direct instruction in face-to-face classes is always recommended. There you can also ask your questions and get individual advice from your yoga teacher on how to use yoga equipment in the most effective way for you.
