One Track Heart: The Story of Krishna Das (DVD)

Description
A career as an American rock star - he could have lived this dream. But in 1970, Jeffrey Kagel turned down an offer from the newly founded Blue Oyster Cult to become their lead singer. Instead, he sold all his belongings and left the New York suburbs. In his search for happiness and a little-known guru named Neem Karoli Baba, he ended up at the foot of the Himalayas.

ONE TRACK HEART tells the story of a man who went to India as Jeffrey Kagel and returns as a world-famous spiritual teacher and Grammy-nominated chant master. The inspiring story of a search for meaning full of depths, obstacles - but also endless joy. The journey of one person can change the lives of countless people!

Among those speaking are "Be Here Now" author and spiritual guru Ram Dass (LSD icon Richard Alpert), Grammy winner and producer Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys, Metallica, Johnny Cash), New York Times bestselling author Sharon Salzberg and two-time Pulitzer Prize nominee Daniel Goleman.

J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. and Devadas provide the stirring soundtrack to this fascinating documentary.

The director about the film

"When I first met Krishna Das, I was pretty worn out by the entertainment industry and was looking for more meaning and a new direction in things in my life. Chanting with him and listening to his stories from India had a powerful effect on me and what I wanted to do with my life. It was my dream to immerse myself so deeply in his world, as well as the world of Maharaji and his followers, and to have the opportunity to tell his story and share it with people who may not be familiar with him.

One thing I knew from the beginning was that this film shouldn't be primarily about spirituality. I think that films about spirituality and devotion can easily become sentimental and even sappy at times. So I wanted to see Krishna Das as a human being, as a character, rather than a spiritual teacher. His life was so dynamic, with extreme highs and lows, that when I got the film into shape during editing, it became almost mythical. I hope that this devotion and deep love comes through in his life, his music and the incredible people I interviewed for this film as you watch the film."

Running time: 72 min.
